New Call for Pitches + Live Video Chat About How to Pitch
We're looking for stories about unique and exciting jobs. Plus, don't miss this week's "Pitch Perfect" live video session in which we'll share advice on how to send us your best ideas.
One of our most popular sections over at Narratively.com is “Secret Lives,” which is all about lifting the veil on secretive and surprising people, pursuits and subcultures. And we really love the stories about off-the-cuff professions. So — with that in mind, and inspired by our recent writing prompt about summer jobs (BTW, go ahead and add to that conversation here!) — this month we’re soliciting story pitches about unusual jobs.
Do you happen to have access to someone who spent years working as a professional mourner (just what it sounds like), and is willing to let you profile them? Did you recently meet a pet therapist who might be ready to share their story? Do you run a professional bridesmaid business? These are the types of stories we’re looking for. We don’t want jobs we’ve heard of or read stories about — the weirder, the better.
And…for an added bonus: We’re not just asking you to send us your best story ideas — we’re going to give you tips on how to do so.
Join the Narratively editorial team this Thursday, July 10, at 1 p.m. ET for a live video session that we’re calling Pitch Perfect, in which we will pull back the curtain on pitching. We’ll share more about exactly what we’re looking for regarding this call; how to craft a pitch or submit a story that will get our attention; and how to improve your pitches going forward, for Narratively and other publications…and we’ll answer questions from you about what makes a great pitch.

We’re looking forward to reading your work soon!
I have been pitching books professionally for decades, but pitching my own writing is of course very different.
