Our Open Book video series has offered tons of insight into the practicalities of publishing, from how to write longform features to how to land a book deal and much more. This Friday’s chat with artist Nupu Press was less focused on the business side of things but it was such a breath of fresh air!
Nupu chatted with Abeer Hoque about the benefits of incorporating sketching and drawing into your journaling practice, and how to nurture you creative self, especially after years of blocks. Thanks so much to everyone who joined us live and chimed in with great questions. For paid members (thank you!) you can watch the full replay of the video by clicking play above.
We found Nupu’s words and approach so inspiring that we decided to launch a little flash writing + art contest. Here’s the prompt:
Pick a small moment from this week that you might forget otherwise. Write up to 500 words about it and include a drawing, photograph, or collage. The writing doesn’t have to be polished and neither does the artwork—just go for it!
Nupu will help us choose a winning story, which will be published on Narratively.com!
Submissions are due by this Thursday, October 9. We can’t wait to see what you submit!
