My favorite pod has been on hiatus for over a year. But the show finally returns next month—ahead of it I’ll speak to producers Stevie and Kalila about how to tell good stories and more.

Engaging, clever, funny, touching… These are just some of the words I would use to describe hit narrative podcast Heavyweight, which has been paused for a bit while they searched for a new home. What I’ve been thinking about lately, as I’ve been diving deep into their encore episodes — the handful of best-ofs they’ve recently been re-releasing with updates — is how they do it exactly. I have a few sneaking suspicions: The stories they tell are relatable, the staff’s charming personalities always come through in the storytelling, they shine a light on important subject matter that’s not always easy to talk about… But even after speaking to them pre-hiatus, I still have some questions about all of this.
