This Week: How I Turned My Nonfiction Article Into a Book
We'll chat live with author Ethelene Whitmire on Wednesday. Plus, don't miss Writers' Room and our monthly "Extra Help" bonus session.
One of our greatest joys at Narratively is when an author publishes a story with us, then goes on to land an agent and turn their story into a full-length book. The latest to do this is Ethelene Whitmire. An award-winning historian, Ethelene published a remarkable history piece with us back in 2018: The Gay Black American Who Stared Down Nazis in the Name of Love.
The genesis of the story came when Ethelene met one of Reed Peggram’s descendants at a lecture, awed that she’d heard so little of this charismatic man and his fascinating true story of love and war. She then unearthed a trove of Peggram’s letters and realized there was a larger story to tell. Now that story has expanded into a book, The Remarkable Life of Reed Peggram, set to be published by Penguin Random House next week.
This Wednesday, January 28 at 1pm ET, I’ll be chatting with Ethelene to hear more about how her story helped her get a literary agent, a significant book deal, and a TV/movie agent, too. I hope you’ll join us! Click here to…
