This Week: How to Write an Autobiographical Novel
If you're not exactly sure where your nonfiction story ends and your fictional tale begins, this one's for you.
Happy Monday, writers! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and got to catch up on Jesse’s talk with Nicole Graev Lipson about How to Turn Your Essays Into a Collection. We have yet another hot topic coming up for this week’s Open Book conversation.
Our next guest is Rafael Frumkin, who has written nonfiction essays, criticism and journalism for The New York Times, Granta, and elsewhere—and has published three notable fiction books, including New York Times Editor’s Pick Confidence. Rafael’s next project is an autobiographical novel, and I can’t wait to chat with Rafael about how their experience with creative nonfiction influences novel writing—and vice-versa.
Rafael’s 6-week workshop class, From Essays to Novels: Fiction Writing for the Nonfiction Writer, starts next week, so if you’ve been thinking about jumping into that one, this Open Book talk will give you a little taste of how Rafael thinks about navigating the great fiction-non-fiction divide.
I hope you’ll join us this Wednesday, February…
