WATCH: Lizzie Widdicombe on Writing and Editing for The New Yorker

After 16 years at one of the world's most prestigious magazines, Lizzie chats with Narratively about how she built her career—and offers advice on how to pitch top editors.

Thanks so much to all of you who joined our first Open Book live video this afternoon!

As a staff writer at The New Yorker, Lizzie Widdicombe has penned everything from breaking news posts to an 11,000-word profile of Taylor Swift. She has also authored over 200 pieces for the “Talk of the Town” section, where she served as deputy editor for nine years. Lizzie talked to Narratively’s Noah Rosenberg about everything she’s learned in these roles—and answered questions from many of you about how to pitch for “Talk of the Town” and elsewhere.
