Tomorrow: Writing + Publishing My Memoir at 75
Join us for a live chat with author Laurie Garnier this Thursday at 1pm. And if you're ready to crush your own weekly writing goals, join us for Writers' Room today!
Good morning, writers! It’s somehow Wednesday already, which means it’s time for Writers’ Room, when we get together to share a virtual space and support each other in finding the time and energy to put our heads down and WRITE. Join us today at 8am ET (and/or for our second session at 8am PT / 11am ET). It’s the last Wednesday of the month, which means we also invite everyone to stay on for a half-hour of “Extra Help” after each Writers’ Room session—a time to chat through any obstacles or burning questions that have come up in your writing projects lately. Both sessions of Writers’ Room are at the same Zoom link. (If you’re asked for a passcode, enter 824784).
Plus, if you enjoyed last week’s Open Book conversation with memoirist Amy Gabrielle about the process of publishing her book with a hybrid publisher, be sure to mark your calendars for our next chat tomorrow, with Laurie Garnier, who will open up about her own process for self-publishing her new book, And Then There Was Paris.
No less an authority than mega-bestselling author James Patterson says“And Then There Was Paris is a well-written, honest and touching memoir that is funny as hell!”
Laurie always knew her adventure could make for a fascinating memoir, but when she tried to write it, nothing quite worked. Then she retired, took a writing class, and something started to stick. Now, at 75, she’s written and published her memoir.
I’ll be chatting with Laurie about how she made that happen, why she went the self-publishing route, and what it’s been like to have her book out there in the world. I hope you’ll join us this Thursday, May 28 at 1pm ET on Substack Live.
